Have you ever been to Romania? No? Neither have I! Yet when an editor asked for stories from Romania I came up with three.
The Roadsweeper’s Angel was inspired by a Father Georghe Calciu who spent more years in prison that you or I have had hot dinners – and merged with serenity in his eyes and forgiveness in his heart.
An island of solitude is set in the sea around Mount Athos – and no, I haven’t been there either! It has a Romanian theme too, though there’s a bit of Scotland in it as well.
Guarding the sea coasts of Bessarabia… a Gothic tale based on true stories. And, yes, the title makes no sense – but if Shakespeare could set a play on the sea coasts of Bohemia, well, why not?
I hope we will see all three stories in Bucharest Tales before too long…
